66437 miles on clock
Well here goes and yippee as finally my new crankshaft and clutch are all sorted out and the car is BACK.... The overall effect is wonderful... A clutch with bite and feel, an engine that revs quicker and smoother (it still needs a new distributer). It feels like it would really "GO QUICK" if gunned. Unfortunately I am not allowed that yet, as the new bearings(big end and main)must be bedded in a bit, and some tension adjustments to the new cambelt are needed. After these changes 5.500rpm and more power to weight than I can use in London or on our motorways. With just a new shock absorber (passenger side already done) and a new steering rack, I will be ready to hurt the Elise's on any track... The car has been in the garage since the end of march!!! I got it back yesterday and have been driving it as much as possible....We went to Guildford and toured round london (Penelope and I), some 250-300 miles with no problems and my clutch leg is fine... So well done to Steve and Carl at Sparrowhawk Motors in Fulham arches. The day before delivery they spotted a leaking pump in the front Carb and fixed it the next day, comendable. With no other leaks evident as they had sorted a tricky water leak before returning the car. They sourced some oversize bearing shells for my Bored out Crankcase, brilliant stuff guys. Also thanks to Mike Taylor at Lotusbits for the crankshaft and clutch fork, and not forgeting SJ Sportscars and Lively Motors for their help with parts and some solid advice..
I just had to reset the points to my fave setting and clean the plugs.
